Bike Trail Extending to Placer County

User comments

The Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SacDOT) has secured grant funds to initiate the first phase of extending the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail to the Placer County line.

Currently, the trail terminates at the Elverta Park and Ride lot, approximately a mile and a half from the Placer County border. SacDOT will receive $564,864 to conduct a feasibility study and engage with residents living near the proposed extension area.

The Sacramento Northern Trail stretches from the American River Parkway near Northgate Boulevard in Sacramento, through unincorporated Sacramento County, ending at the Elverta Park and Ride Lot, located just south of the Elverta Road and Rio Linda Boulevard intersection.

The planned extension includes a 1.5-mile section of dirt trail from the Park and Ride lot to the Placer County line, converting it into a Class 1 trail. This extension will feature a 12-foot-wide paved asphalt path with centerline striping for cyclists.

This project is a component of the Sacramento Area Council of Governments’ (SACOG) Sacramento Regional Trail Network Action Plan and the Sacramento County Active Transportation Plan.

The total project cost is estimated at $640,000, with SACOG’s Carbon Reduction Program contributing $564,864 and Sacramento County providing a local match of $73,408 from Measure A funds. The feasibility study is expected to commence in September.
