This past Saturday, the Friends of the Rio Linda Library hosted an engaging and educational event featuring bat specialist Corky Quirk from Northern California Bats. The event, which was held at the library, drew a standing-room-only crowd, with many families and children eager to learn about these fascinating creatures.
Corky Quirk, an expert in bat conservation and education, captivated the audience with her presentation. She brought along three different species of bats, providing attendees with an up-close look at these nocturnal mammals via a large-screen television. The bats on display included the Mexican Free-tailed Bat, the Big Brown Bat, and the newly designated California State Bat, the Pallid Bat.
Throughout the presentation, Quirk shared valuable insights into the lives of bats, their ecological importance, and the mysteries that still surround them. She highlighted that the Mexican Free-tailed Bat is the most commonly seen species in the Rio Linda area, fascinating the audience with details about their behaviors and habitats.
In addition to the bat presentation, attendees had the opportunity to meet Michelle Brown, the Rio Linda Library’s newest librarian. Brown, who has already made a positive impression on the community, was on hand to welcome guests and discuss upcoming events and programs at the library.
