Obituary: Michael Thomas Lynch

Michael Thomas Lynch  June 21, 1938 – March 15, 2024

Mike Lynch 85, passed away March 15, 2024. Rio Linda resident for 54 years. Born June 21, 1938 in Merced, CA. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Mike was a very giving person, especially after he found his passion for rodeo. He dedicated much of his life to the sport, serving as an arena director and pickup man at District 3 CHSRA for more than 20 years. He loaned his horses to young participants in need.  He raised bucking bulls for practice animals.  He hosted Sankey Rodeo Schools in Rio Linda for several years, late 90’s-2006.  He organized stock for both the Lion’s Club Rodeo and the Gay Rodeo Assc. Rodeos in Rio Linda.

Mike is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy Hussey Lynch of Kalama, WA, his daughters Shanon Lynch-Shelton of Rio Linda, and Kimberley Metzger of Kalama, and son Casey Gordon of Folsom, as well as his sister Molly Rooney of Chico, CA and her children.  He was preceded in death by his father Frank Lynch, and his mother Francis (Ryan) Lynch.

Mike graduated from Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento in 1956, and attended Sacramento Jr. College. He served in the US Marine Corps 1957 to 1960 in Iwakuni, Japan, and later in US Air Force Reserve as a loadmaster with missions to Vietnam.

Mike was a Wonder Bread delivery driver 1962-1965 transitioning to civil engineering at McClellan AFB 1966-1985.

Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, team roping, and RODEO. He will be remembered for his dedication to the sport and his generosity to others.

Per Mike’s wishes, there will be no formal services with a private scattering of his ashes in the Pacific Ocean. Contributions to his memory can be made to District 3 CA High School Rodeo Association Scholarships at 3425 Amoruso Way, Roseville, CA 95747.

Rest in peace, Mike. Your kindness and love for Rodeo will be deeply missed.

“We are all travelers in this world. From the sweet grass to the packing house, birth till death, we travel between the eternities.”
